Chances are whether you are just now reeling in your special someone from the dating pool and making it official, or if you are lucky enough to be part of a long standing commitment, there’s one ever-defining subject for every relationship… cooking. Traditionally, since the ancient days of hunter/gatherer communities, the responsibility of food preparation has been a task of the female counterpart. To this we say, throw tradition to the wind. Let ye be free, and walk into the light of a new dawning where cooking is neither his nor hers, but yours.
The Coach House
There is an abundant offering of cooking lessons available throughout the Oklahoma City metro areas, but one particular location caught our eye—The Coach House. The Coach House has been a dining staple in Oklahoma since its inception, in 1985. Amid Oklahoma’s most severe modern economic downturn, visionary and founder Chris Lower, followed his passions and decided to open a world-class fine dining restaurant. Despite a difficult economy, The Coach House opened its doors in November 1985, in one of Oklahoma City’s most renowned neighborhoods, Nichols Hills.
Learning from the Best
The Coach House stands on the foundation of a commitment to quality and consistency, which of course, is reflected in their food and wine presentation. The usual suspect for all of this is Chef Kurt Fleischfresser, who joined the staff in 1988. Chef Fleischfresser’s career began in a very unlikely place – the cafeteria kitchen of an Oklahoma State University dormitory. Kurt was working a part time job to provide supplementary income in order to finance his education, when voila—his incessant love for cooking was discovered. Fleischfresser’s fervor for food drove him, literally, across the country to Le Vichyssoise, to study under Chef Bernard Cretier, in Chicago. Need to check Chef Kurt’s credentials a bit more? Since his humble beginnings, Chef Kurt Fleischfresser has been invited twice to New York City’s James Beard House as part of the great regional chefs program. He is also a twotime finalist in the esteemed American culinary gold cup competition, which is the first portion of the bocuse d’or. Chef Kurt Fleischfresser is one of only a few chefs in the country with federal accreditation putting him in the grand company of the late Julia Child, Hawaii’s Alan Wong and renowned celebrity chef Paul Prudhomme as the only four American chefs to receive the honor.
