For April’s Restaurant Spotlight it’s all about Mom and brunch—two things so dear to my heart.  Okay, I don’t enjoy brunch nearly as much as I love my mom, but brunch is definitely a weekly-must of mine.

Brunching (yes, it is now a verb) will be even more delightful this month when it’s enjoyed with the sweetest company—mom. It’s April and if you’ve forgotten, Mother’s Day is quickly approaching. For me, Mother’s Day is something I take seriously. It’s one day a year that I actually stop and thank my mom for how supportive, sacrificial and loving she is. So this year, join me and take your mom out for brunch. Let her have all the bacon and glasses of chocolate milk she desires, and of course, pick up the tab.

I searched Edmond high and low.  I tried many different brunch spots—you’re welcome—and found the perfect place for you and your family to celebrate the lovely woman who, if we’re being honest, holds the family together.

If you love going to Café 501 for lunch and dinner, it’s time you try their Sunday brunch. While the atmosphere may seem a little upscale, their pricing is affordable and their portions are plentiful.

Café 501’s menu has both sweet and savory options. Some of their popular items are crab cake benedict, chicken & waffles, stuffed french toast and chorizo migas. After trying them, I can’t stop raving about the chicken & waffles.  The dish boasts a lightly crusted chicken breast served over waffles and topped with a fried egg, savory syrup and a béchamel sauce. They also have omelettes, salads, sandwiches and a few pizzas to choose from.

I encourage you to do brunch right with your mom—she deserves it.  Order a pitcher of mimosas to share with your table, or if mimosas are too sweet, try 501’s famous jalapeño-wrapped Bloody Mary to go along with your entrée.

Café 501 has two locations, one off Boulevard in Edmond and one on Classen Curve. They encourage reservations, especially on Mother’s Day, to ensure that patrons will be seated as soon as they arrive. Their Sunday brunch hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information on Café 501 or to make a reservation, check out their website at www.cafe501.com.
