Ah Memorial Day weekend.

The freedom, the family time, the beginning of summer and…the booze. Excuse us if we sound a little like lushes around here, but we can’t help but bask a little in the beginning of summer.

There’s nothing quite like the first time you’re allowed to fire up the grill or the first time you pop the tab on a local brew—burgers and beer go hand in hand. What’s more, a delicious cocktail with your besties is another way to celebrate your extra day off from work. So, we’ve compiled two ways for you to kick off summer the right way. First, you’ll find our pick for the best local drink.  Also, if you’re feeling like an at-home mixologist, we’ve included a way for you to make your own cocktail in the comfort and privacy of your own home. No shoes, no shirts, no problem is the phrase that keeps circling in our minds.

Pub W

3121 W Memorial Rd.

If you’re looking for a spot where you can catch the game, dine with a lover or clink mimosas over a delicious brunch—Pub W is the spot.  Pub W is a modern American pub that specializes in new age pub food and classic drinks with a twist. According to their website, “the menu is a ‘new classic’ take on pub food.”

When it comes to cocktails, we recommend the W Margarita. This twist on the classic marg mixes El Jimador Reposado Tequila, St Germain, elderflower, agave nectar and lime juice, producing a fresh, delicious drink that perfectly compliments an order of Pub W’s Spicy Chicken Nachos. Ole!

*DIY Drink

For a spin on Pub W’s W Margarita, we recommend you compile the following ingredients:  Kosher salt, lime slices or wedges, 1 tablespoon of agave nectar, 1/2 cup fresh lime juice and 1/4 cup of tequila blanco.

Pour the kosher salt into a dish. Rub 1 lime wedge over half the rim of an Old Fashioned glass. Dip the rim of your glass into the kosher salt.  After the glass is adequately salted, combine the tequila, juice and agave nectar into a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice and get your shake on.  Strain the cocktail into your salted glass. Garnish the drink with the other lime slice. Enjoy!
