Lake season is right around the corner, and with this fun time comes a free-living lifestyle filled with laying out, swimming and eating a few too many s’mores. The question of which lake, is one that inspires good-hearted allegiances to various swimming holes around the state. We asked a few local lake house owners why they chose the spot they did. Their answers may inspire you to stake your very own claim at one of these Oklahoma hot spots.
Leslie Schuppan – Grand Lake
“We are boaters, the whole family. We have a motor boat and sailboat and our favorite memories are of us being out on the water with both of our girls. As far as lake views, I don’t think you can get better than at Grand. Certainly why we looked at Grand was really the view, but we also loved the size of the lake, the ability to do motor boating and sailing and the families that go on a yearly basis. We have a lot of friends that live within two minutes of our house so we spend an enormous amount of time with the families around the area.”
David Birdwell – Lake Eufaula
“There is something about being at the lake. It’s like the clock slows down, time rolls back and we get to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Our boys loved to wake board and wake surf growing up and it has always been a great place for them to bring their friends to hang out. I think the lake experience can be a lot of different things to different families or individuals. Lake Eufaula, in general, offers a gamut of opportunities. The lake is large but it feels smaller because of the number of coves and the topography of the lake. It offers great fishing, coves to hang and float in on the hot summer days, and you can usually find a calm area for skiing or wake boarding. There are so many great memories at Eufaula, including our Fourth of July celebrations, where we usually have a big fish fry for family and friends.”
Janie Myers – Carlton Landing
“We just closed on a house in Carlton Landing, and we plan to spend a lot of time there this summer. We chose Carlton Landing because we were impressed with the community and it is only about a 2-hour drive from Edmond. We are looking forward to spending time together as a family waterskiing, tubing and fishing. Carlton Landing also offers many community activities that I know our family will enjoy.”
