Harrah Hosts Heritage Fest

Flowers bloom, grass turns green and the smell of chili dogs begins wafting through the fields. Well, maybe just in Harrah.

On May 14 at Harrah Heritage Park and Amphitheater, the Harrah Friends of the Park will facilitate a day of fun and festivities. The Harrah Heritage Fest will include the second annual Chili Dog Fun Run, the first annual Bark for Life Run, a health fair and a farmer’s market.
In addition to last year’s activities, like the Chili Dog Fun Run, local music and the Chili Cook Off,  the Friends are beefing (pun intended) up the festival with the Bark for Life Run, health fair and farmer’s market.

At 11 a.m., the American Cancer Society is partnering with the Friends, raising funds for the Cancer Society while encouraging rescue/shelter animal adoption.

“There will be booths with venders of all types, benefitting the health of your pets,
yourself and all sorts of fun in between,” Tara Goodson,Vice President of Harrah Friends of the Park Foundation, said.“Along with the booths will be activities such as dog demonstrations, dog education, health education/screenings and dog adoption opportunities.”

The dog demonstrations will run from 11a.m. to 1 p.m.; the silent auction will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; a Musical Dog Sit and Best Costume Contest will occur at 1 p.m. along with the one mile walk at 2 p.m. The walk will be led by local cancer survivors and their canine caregivers.

The health fair and farmer’s market will feature local businesses and educate the community about health and wellness.  Locals can stop by the Best Yet Pharmacy table to screen for diabetes, donate blood to the Oklahoma Blood Institute and talk to fitness or nutrition experts.

Additionally, booths will feature fresh, local produce. The health fair will start at noon and will continue until 5 p.m.

Among all the activities, entertainment at the Amphitheater will be provided from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free. If you are interested in facilitating a booth, please contact Tara Goodson at drtaragoodson@gmail.com.
