As a part of the University of Central Oklahoma’s Complete the Dream athletic facilities campaign, ground was broken for the university’s new softball stadium and field.

Construction on the $2.4 million softball field began in July with hopes of finishing in February of 2017. At the groundbreaking—which took place in mid June—were President Dr. Don Betz, head coach Cody White, former head coach Dr. Gerry Pinkston, assistant coach Jon Hunter and current UCO softball players, among others.

The softball facility is expected to be fully enclosed. It will include a brand new press box, a home dressing room, artificial playing surface and expanded seating. In a public statement, Athletic Director Joe Muller said,

"This truly is a special occasion for us in the athletic department. It’s the beginning of a transformation in our athletic facilities that is long, long overdue. This is a great day and marks a new era in Broncho Athletics.”

"We're excited about what this can do for our program moving forward," said head coach Cody White. "It's a great day for us and it couldn't have happened without a lot of people stepping up to help."

As the first athletic facilities campaign of its kind, the Complete the Dream Campaign also hopes to add an indoor practice facility and a sports performance building in the north end zone of Wasteland Stadium, among other projects.
