As Deer Creek grows, the needs of local students grow, as well.
Locals feel this increase in population in the classroom, which is why the Deer Creek I-6 School District recently called a special election for Aug. 23 to consider a bond vote. This bond notes that for the last decade the Deer Creek School District has grown exponentially; therefore, local educators and citizens believe more space, technology and transportation are needed.
“The bond will help build new facilities and additions along with repairing, renovating and renewing several district buildings in order to accommodate the increasing student population, enhance the safety and security of our sites for our students and make improvements to existing learning environments,” said Chief Human Resources and Communications Officer for the Deer Creek School District Lenis DeRieux.
The bond vote is two-fold, with the initial part of the vote considering bonds in the sum of
$169, 395,000 for repairs, constructions, remodeling, acquiring new school furniture and improving school sites. Another element of the bond vote includes issuing a bond in the sum of $5,650,000 for purchasing transportation equipment. According to DeRieux, the list of the proposal for the Bond Projects includes:
• Land Purchase for Elementary #2
• Land Purchase for Future School
