The Midnight Streak 5K Run for Arts is more than just your typical sporting event.

It’s a celebration of community, of artistry and a fight for a good cause. It’s a 5K, but the event also promotes creativity and showcases local artists.

As contenders run the 5K, local artists create works on the site of Oklahoma Contemporary’s future campus. Those not participating in the race can enjoy food trucks and a variety of opportunities for families to play, dance and discover. Once the race is run, an after party offers music and drinks. That’s not all that makes this event unique, however; winners receive more

than your standard race medals, they also receive one-of-a-kind pieces of art. The Midnight Streak 5K Run for Arts doesn’t just celebrate art and fitness; it combines both with a unique flavor that’s nothing short of refreshing.

All proceeds from the race go to support Oklahoma Contemporary, a local non-profit that offers art exhibits year-round with free admission to the public. The gallery, which was selected as one of the 25 Best Museums and Galleries in America by the American Art Awards, also offers a variety of classes and workshops six days a week. Proceeds from the Streak go to support this educational programming, which also includes free workshops for families, hand-on activities tied to exhibits, field trips for area schools and scholarships for students.

The race will run through Automobile Alley, Midtown, SOSA and Heritage Hills on Aug. 20 at 8 p.m. Registration is $35 and the first 500 runners registered will receive a tech T-shirt designed by a local artist.
