Moore residents are lacing up their running shoes for the 8th annual Moore War Run on Aug. 27.
The community-wide 5K provides necessary scholarships and student activities for the three high schools in the Moore Public School District. Presenting Sponsors include the City of Moore, Brown O’Haver and Horn Equipment. This year’s run is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. in downtown Moore.
“The Moore War Run is an activity that everyone in town looks forward to and is the annual kick off for school starting,” said Moore local and long time Moore War Run supporter Alice Young. “It creates a sense of unity and togetherness. In Moore have to come together so often during disasters and we are a strong group and community from that but this event brings us together on a fun day where we are all one big group regardless of what high school we or our children attend[ed]. I’m proud to be a part of this run and feel pride in partaking in it.”
“The run is a joint fundraiser for the alumni associations at Westmoore and Moore and in 2013 we added two, $1000 scholarships for Southmoore High School since they don’t have an alumni association yet,” said Reporter for the Moore High School Alumni Association Tracy Nix. “The run benefits scholarships at all three Moore high schools. The Moore War Run 5K is a family event that brings the community together through fitness and fun while giving back to others.”
Runners will receive a tech-shirt perfect for cooling off in the August heat. Volunteers are welcome. Clubs, civic organizations or dedicated individuals can assist with race day set up, water stops, cleanup, course marshal responsibilities and much more. Racers with all abilities are welcome to participate in this exciting event.
Don’t miss out on a chance to stretch those fitness muscles while helping local schools at this year’s Moore War Run.
